as an out of state (VA) can i get in with a 2.3 GPA? i havent taken my SAT's yet but im taking them in sept. (im going into my senior year.) i've been a varsity cheerleader all 4 years, i've had a job for all 4 years, played lacrosse for one year, and also was on a allstar cheerleading team for 2 years. my older brother also attends WVU. do i have a CHANCE of getting accepted here?

i'd really like to apply as early as possible and im also going into my senior year so i don't have much time to raise my GPA. so if i can write an awesome letter and apply early with this.. do you think i'd have a chance?

  1. You will need to knock it out of the park on your SAT and raise your GPA to at least a 3.0 to even have a small shot.  WVU is a popular school with boatloads of applicants.  Their average admitting GPA is a 3.3.

As it stands right now you don't even meet the minimum requirements to apply to the school.  Unless your brother is a prominent alumni (which he's not if he's still attending) they don't care about him going there.  That has nothing to do with you.

Make sure you apply to some "saftey schools" locally like community colleges.  WVU would be a "reach school" for you.  One you apply to but don't expect to really get in.

    Here's their admissions page:

This is a pretty great page too:

  2. Call the college/ university  on the phone or go online to their website. Write/email  the  college education office and they will give you the details on how you can be enrolled in their college..they will even send you a packet. Good luck!!

  3. You might be able to get in if you do well on your SAT. Sometimes a school will look at SAT scores, other test scores,  activities, and behavior when deciding.

  4. I've seen people get in with lower GPA than that; it isn't stellar, but not all that horrible.  Try to focus on your extracurricular activities and plans for improving performance.

  5. The colleges are gonna view all ur GPAs in the 4 yrs of high schools. But its really hard to get in a goood college with a GPA of 2.3. You also need so many other activities ( sports, music, volunteeeer)
