a pain reliever, diphenhydramine is an antihistamine, and phenylephrine is a nasal decongestant. I am not sick nor do I have a headache. I know that diphenhydramine has sedating properties. I cannot fall asleep tonight. Is it safe to take the pill?

  1. the problem with taking a pill like this to fall asleep is the counteractions of the phenhydramine (benadryll) and phenylephrine.      it is true that phenhydramine is a sedative,  however phenylephrine is a stimulant,   working   on the same system epinephrine and norepinephrine do, and thus will most likely keep you up than help you go to sleep.        you mway want to look into doxylamine succinate pills,     it is the same ingrediant that is in nyquil,  but you may want to becareful as you can become dependent on it  for sleep.
