  1. Running the tank down to empty allows more fuel to evaporate in your tank and be forced out as fumes when you fill.     Buying earlier can be beneficial if the prices go up after you fill.    Buy early in the morning when the specific gravity of the gas is lower,  and the fuel more dense.   Let it expand in your tank,  not the oil company's!

Topping off every time you go out would be ridiculous unless you burn a lot each use.   Filling about halfway should work best for most.     Use websites or call ahead to get prices to allow you to shop for the best  price.    Reward the sellers with the lowest prices with your business,  if two have the same price use the independent business owner and not the chain.

  2. I like to fill up between 1/2 and 1/4 tank left--I don't like the feeling of driving around with less than a quarter tank because you never know what's going to happen.

  3. I always wait until the light comes on telling me im low on gas.

  4. Fill up half-way

  5. A

  6. i mostly carry spare so i dont have 2 stop on the way

  7. I wait till I pass by a gas station which I know is the cheapest one and I fill it up there.  Saves a couple of dollars.  Especially if I feel the prices will rise.  If prices are coming down I wait a day or two.  But I think mostly gas prices are effecting poor people.  Those who have a decent paying job are not much bothered by it.  I drive a honda civic which sips gas so it's not that big of a deal.  Back in the day I could fill it up with less than $10, now it takes $35.  Oh well...

  8. A or B. Most of the time I wait till I have a 1/4 tank left. ...but if my plans include going to an area that is unfamiliar I generally will fill up before I get there, even at the 1/2 tank level.

  9. I would say, b most of the time. Here are a few ways to improve gasmiliage.

Reduce any extra weight in vehicle, (do you really need to carry the three bowling balls around all week?)

Think about your commute. If you can leave earlier 15-30 minutes, will you avoid the majority of traffic? travelling at a  steady 30-40 mph is way better than stop and go for a hour.

car pooling works. try to find someone to car share.

check the air in your tires. bring them to vehicle specs.

do regular tune ups and maintenance.

  10. If prices are rising I fill-up at when my tank is half-empty.

If prices are falling I fill-up when empty.

  11. C

I fill up once per week at $60-75 per fill, I am fortunate to live in NJ. where I believe gas is the cheapest in the nation. Today I filled half way with $30 and paid $3.18 per gallon of premium at the local Getty station. If only Us as American citizens would boycott gas for one day it would send shock waves through OPEC.

  12. I drive a four door sedan type.  I hate to put sooo much money in at a time.  Just became a habit of putting in $20 at a time.  These days though I have to make it at least $30!

    I am a mix between A and B.
