I have a svideo connection from my cable box to my laptop. Now I want to have tv on my laptop so I can copy it

I want to be able to use my laptop as a video recorder. I have an svideo connection from my motorola DCT6416 to my laptop. But nothing comes up on my laptop. What am I doing wrong? Do I need some software or something? I am running Vista on my laptop. fyi

You need a tuner.

Make sure your laptop is fast enough to watch tv. You can also record tv.

are you connecting the cable to a video capture card? check the specifications of your laptop.  you might be connecting the cable to an s-video out port as some video cards have s-video out along with the rgb port for connecting another monitor.  also some video capture cards come with their own software.. so check your documentation.
