  1. My parents had their pool sitting for 4 yrs. They just had it redone. It looks amazing. They went to a small pool shop and had cement poured a new liner and stairs. They priced out having it filled with dirt it the cost was ridicules. You need permits and different city officials. In the end they paid  $5600 and its a brand new pool.

Look into filling with dirt before you do anything...

  2. We have remodeled many pools.

Turned several liner pools into concrete pools.

If you must get rid of the pool.

You should know the best thing is to remove entirely.

If too expensive, rent a hammer drill, & add several holes in bottom of pool.

You can buy Clean fill dirt & fill & sod.

Clean fill dirt, means not full of roots & plant material.

Not as major as some may lead you to believe.

The MUD hole is a little far fetched, depending of course where you live & the soil conditions of your area.

  3. Typical gunite pools are demoed by jackhammering out 4' around main drain to the soil below, removing coping and bond beam down 4' and putting in the pool then filling and compacting structure with soil.

If you have other types of pools you can see the thought process above.  If vinyl liner, I would think you want that recycled then fill the hole.

    You're welcome!!

  4. Sell the house. you will depreciate your property value if you fill it with dirt.  or have a remote control top placed on in strong enough to Carry weight if you want to sit or stand on it or st up a patio.

  5. Fill it with dirt.  It's the easiest answer.

It will not be muddy if you fill enough dirt on it and plant grass seed on it.  I am a Realtor and this is done quite often. If you only knew the number of backyards that have pools filled in.

Don't try to tackle this yourself until you find the best way to fill the dirt in. Ask around. Do it right .. Good luck !

  6. First up you want to Remove the entire bottom of the pool.

I know this will prove to be expensive but in the end you will thank yourself for heading this advice due to the fact that if you ignore it this will turn into a pool of quick sand effect.

Second break the side walls down to 18" below grade.

Now your all set for backfilling.

Note: <Make sure Backfill material is of comperable soil texture per usda specs. Silt sand Clay content is ideal.
