I've been accepted into the 2010 games of the 30th Olympiad and I went to a tattoo shop to get my rings...(it's a life long dream) well the girl said that if I got them that small they would look like "****" over time.....I want a true tattoo artist to tell me if this was true or her just trying to make money....she said, "oh they are to small" (I gave her a picture of the size I wanted). She said they would come together over time and look like c**p. Here is a picture of what I want and that small...

She said over time It will look like c**p...is this true or her trying to get me to go bigger...here is what she said i should get it larger....to make sure the color lasts...i think it was her way of making money.....I've been friends of athletes of the Olympiad's and they've never had a promblem with small tattoos. Is it just her making a quick buck. Does a tattoo really shrink that much on the human body. Should I go somewhere else....This is a life long tattoo that I need to get. I never wanted a tattoo, but I have to get this to represent the games. What do you suggest? I think I need another opinion. She say's go bigger....I don't think it's necesary...look at Michael Phelps' tattoo of the rings...it's small and looks great.....What should I do?

P.s. I'm going for snowboarding in 2010!

Please help me?

  1. I am not a tattoo artist, but I have had tattoos, and have had them for a long time. Color does tend to bleed over time, It makes the lines in a tattoo not seem as sharp. I have a VERY detailed tat on my leg, that gets sun, and I have had it for over 10 years. It is still very detailed. It still looks great. I would say that if you want a tattoo the same size as the one in that pic, that you should do it. Remember, it is your body and your art.

  2. I am not a tattoo artist, but I would think that with a reputable artist, and a 'fine line' needle, that you wouldn't have a problem over time.

If you did excellent aftercare, and sunblock for life, it should be alright.

Find an experienced, 'been around the block a few times' artist, and do fine lines. (You want a reputable artist so that the colors are of good quality - too many newbies are using questionable cheap inks)

good luck, I'll root for you!

  3. they are not a good artist. find sum1 who knows that they can do it with a light hand. if they think that it will blend with time then they put the ink too deep into the skin & it tends to migrate with time. I specialize in restoration of old, faded or fuzzy tattoos :).

  4. its not that they shrink, its just that as you age your skin will get looser and eventually wrinkly. but by the time u are that age, i highly doubt you will even care!

  5. Unless you went to a shady shop, then I'm sure she wasn't trying to hustle you.  She knows her capabilities and she feels that it wouldn't age well.  Go around to different reputable shops in your area and get the opinions of many tattoos artists.  Just because she doesn't think it'll look good later in life doesn't mean that another artist isn't confident that he can do that tattoo justice.
