Question:

I have a teacher who refuses to do his job or listen to me. What can I do about it?

So, I kind of have a history of mutual animosity with one of the music teachers at my high school. It's too long to explain here, but basically he's lazy and just dosen't do his job.

Today, he's taken it to the next level by not showing up for class. He took his homeroom of seniors outside for something before class, and just didn't show up. No substitute, no note, nothing. As funny as it was initially, I feel like he's wasting our time and being disrespectful.

I don't feel like I can approach him directly because like I said, I've had similar issues in the past that I can admit to not having handled very well - I doubt he'll listen, or do anything but remind me that he thinks I have an attitude problem.

So, help? Particularly any teachers, dosen't he have to supervise us? And who do I go to about this?

  1. I think you should go to either the principal or school administrator with the problem.  They are his boss and can take care of the problem better and more effectively than you can.  Also, if you say you have had a bad history with this teacher, take some of your fellow classmates who are in class with you when you go to tell the principal or administrator.  That way, it doesn't look like you are the only one with a problem.  Never try to sound like you are whining or complaining about nothing, because then they won't listen to you.  Just figure out what you want to say and tell the principal in a calm, respectful way.  I guarantee they will listen to you, trust me, I've had the same problem with one of my teachers this year.  It also helps to get your parents involved b/c they can be a little more forceful when it comes to your education and a bad teacher in the way of that.  I hope this helps.  Good luck!

  2. Yes, supervision and showing up for classes in high school is required.

One, speak to the principal and have you or your parents call the School Board members.  Two, document the time and duration the teacher was missing from class.

If it does happen again, you need to go find another teacher in the vicinity and tell them exactly what is going on while it is happening.  Find out who the head of the Music Dept is and I would try going to them.  In a case like this - I wouldn't mind having a student come in and tell me something like that.

  3. Ok.. first you are a student and no teacher is going to listen to a student, so get over that.

Second, this truly is a principal problem, but, it is going to take more than just you. If no one else believes your premise, then my suggestion is get out of the class or live with it.

  4. If he is not doing his job right you should definitely go to the principal. Remember hes the one that chose to be a teacher If he wanted to take on a responsibility like that then he should be doing his work.

  5. Call the cops and file a missing person report.  It will make the new.

  6. You need to go and report this to your principal and write a letter to your school board detailing this incident.  Tell your parents or another teacher and have them help you with the letter or in reporting this to your school principal.

This guy is getting paid with community tax dollars to do a job he is not doing, he should be fired. Also because he left a group of minors alone on school time, that falls into a legal mess as well.

  7. Yes he has a supervisor, your parents would be more effect in talking to his boss, because your parents are the principals boss. As for you, just end the year. Don't cause problems for your self, not worth your time.

  8. bring it up with the principle or vice principle

  9. I'd tell your headmaster or principle. S/he will sort it out from there.

  10. Tell the district if it bothers you so much, it's your education, take initiative (and tell the dam teacher to get a life)

  11. Report him to your Head Teacher or Deputy Head straight away.  I had a teacher like that when I was in school & there's no excuse for it.  He shouldn't be teaching with an attitude like that and you and his other students who are suffering because of him.  He is definitely obliged to supervise his class at all times. Report him!!!
