I have a teacher who thinks boy's are smarter than girls?

ok so my teacher jokes around and says he is "laid back" and he sort of is but he jokes around about some mean things....he says stuff like that girls aren't smart as boys and when my mom e-mailed him he wrote back saying that he is laid back and students like that he says those things....also that he does support his girl students...and that if we wanted to talk to our counselor and change classes he would support it...now i could change my my classes and go to the other teacher or stay here...i don't know what to do....please help

P.S. he teaches algebra

Well if you really can't focus or anything in his class because of this, you might want to switch class or maybe talk to the principal. You need to get a few of your other friends to tell the principal too, or if you don't feel comfortable, ask your mom or dad to email or talk in person to your principal. and just because you did that doesn't mean that you don't like this teacher or anything like that. It's not your fault that you can't focus or don't feel like you can learn in the class because of that. hope this helps do what feels right to you xoxo

So his hypothesis is "girls aren't smart as boys".

Construct a test that most girls could pass and most boys could not, and challenge the teacher to get a better grade than the girls.

Here are some examples:

What color skirt would go with a lavender top?

If a girl is wearing panties and pantyhose, which goes on first?

List the steps in order for a manicure.

List the steps in order for a hair permanent.

That's completely sexist and not even true. Some people believe that girls are not as strong as boys when it comes to math and science. They think that it is a boy's subject. Well, it's not! I know many girls who are amazing at math, and even more boys who suck at math. It completely depends on what kind of person you are and your work habits, not at all on gender. I can't stand when people say things like that.

This teacher is dead wrong and should not be in the classroom if he is biased against girls.  By all means report him to the principle, to the school board, to the newspaper, whoever.  This is not "laid back", this is sexist and discriminatory.  No good teacher has an attitude like this.  Let me ask you a question.  Would everyone be so casual about this if he said that white students were smarter than black ones??????  Well, its the same thing and should not be tolerated.

I'm sorry your teacher is bothering and insulting you.  No teacher (or professional adult in an academic setting) should ever, EVER discriminate even jokingly between people, whether it be based on s*x, race, whatever.  That is a very sensitive subject for many people and should not be kidded about.  And being "laid back" does not give anyone the right to justify unacceptable behavior.  

He is wrong, by the way.  Men aren't smarter than women and you are no less worthy of anything in life than a man is.  There might be people out there who tell you otherwise or perhaps you live in a culture that supports that kind of thinking but don't let it get to you b/c it isn't true.  Men and women each have different strengths but neither one is better or worse than the other.

If it's bothering you and you don't feel you can learn in the environment, then switch classes.  I wouldn't want to be around an arrogant jerk (which is what he sounds like he is).
