I was on vacation for a week and I've been sick since last tuesday (about 5 days) I have a cough and feel really tired all the time. I went skating today for the first time since over a week ago and I couldn't get through more than 1 element of the test without getting winded and having to rest for a bit. I'm worried about this happening on test day. I'm skating once more before the test (the morning of). i'm not sure if I should try to exersize or try to rest a lot, or if I should skate hard for my practice or not use up my energy. And also if its a good idea to have some sort of drink like gator ade or some energy drink so I'm not so tired..

Please help! I really don't want to fail my test. (its preliminary moves btw)

  1. if you're really feeling like you couldnt complete the test, go to a doctor and get a medical certificate from them stating that you are unwell enough to not skate. you shouldnt have to pay to enter the next test day, and you'll have time to get ontop of the bug :P if you do decide to skate, make sure you get pleanty of rest the night before. take medicine with your incase you need it, and keep warm. also drink lots of water.

good luck with your test, and get well soon! :)

  2. Preliminary! I'm taking my test next Saturday! Where do you skate? (What state?)

Alright- so, taking the test- all you need to do is tell your coach that you are sick. She (or he) will be sure to reschdule the test for you on a time that you are feeling better.

I have a coach named Jill. She is super nice. When I was testing for Pre-Preliminary, I got sick the day of my test. I was so devestated. Jill didn't even want me to try (you are bound to do awful if you are skating sick!) to skate. I advise you to do the same.

Wow, its so cool to be in the same level! Well, feel free to email me with any questions regarding skating. I hope I helped!

  3. if you have a doctor ask them the're advice is far better than anyones you get an anwser from on here  beause they are professionaly trained.but my suggestion would be try and rest as much as possibe lay off on to much exercise and pratice because you don't want to over abuse yourself .both your bodys  immune system and your body is busy enough fighting of you being sick and trying to heal .so don't make it worse by burning yourself out and useing up your bodys needed energy  .also drink lots of fluids and eat right to keep up your strength . if you feel well enough to skate before the test then i say you are really not that sick . no offense intended . or have gotten much better . but i wouldn't force my self too otherwise . as for the test if you are to sick to be there then talk to your instructor and see if you can reschedule to retake it and make it up on another day . if they know you are truely to sick to be there and attend they are pretty good with working with you on makeing it back up . good luck  hope you feel better and my suggestions help.

  4. I got pneumonia the week before my Junior Moves and I was still a little woosy before my test. Do not drink energy drinks!! They are so bad for you and you could basically crash before you need the energy. Just make sure to get a good amount of sleep the night before and have a really good breakfast(and if it's in the afternoon, a heathy small lunch, you can pig out after). If you really don't think you're ready, you can always call the test chairperson and drop out. Sometimes that's better because you may be able to get on the next test session instead of waiting a month if you have to retake. It all depends on how you feel. Hope it all works out!!!
