I really believe all of us could help the situation , but are uniformed or uninterested. Too many of us in California and other states ( I assume ) are wasting fuel like crazy. Here in Ca. everyone seems to want to drive a big suv instead of a gas saving vehicle. Not only that ,but people here in so cal race in between stoplights and stopsigns. They do not seem to care that these gas guzzling cars that mabey get 16 mpg , get even less when you drive them hard. You would think that with the price of gas here 3.50 a gal they would wake up and smell the coffee. Conservation has its values , and using less gas helps eliminate a lot of the demand , therefore lowering the price. Having said that , I realize the neeed for large trucks for work and such , but not for carting families and single individuals around. By the way, before you blast me as a liberal , I will tell you I am a hard core conservative. One with common sense.

  1. Saving gas with more economical vehicles makes sense. But for some of us, it's not an option.

I'm well over 6 feet tall, and there's absolutely no way I can fit in a compact car. I've tried. Driving with my head pressed against the roof and my legs and knees wedged behind the steering wheel isn't very comfortable or safe. If compact cars were all they made, I'd have to give up driving.

However, I don't drive a gas-guzzling SUV. I have a mini-van that provides ample room and isn't bad on gas at all.

  2. I agree with you.  Here is a simple suggestion.  Purchase your fuel from the least expensive station.  That is about all the affect we have on the cost of fuel.

I have been severely curtailing excessive driving.  I have been able to start commuting using my motorcycle. To a Californian you may think "Big deal".  Here in Northwest Indiana we are still getting snow and temps in the mornings are still routinely below freezing.  Thank goodness for Gerbing heating riding gear.  I agree that many motorist have been taken by the marketing hype perpetuated by the auto companies and have made poor choices when they bought their vehicle.  Sadly "image" and "want" has replaced "need" when choosing a vehicle.

Speaking of coffee, I ask, how much do you spend on coffee each day?  How many gallons of gas could that coffee have paid for?

There is no easy short term solution other than conservation.  Long term we need to make some major changes.  To all the motorist that read this message, motorcycles and bicycles save a huge amount of fuel.  Give them a break when you see them on the road, especially bicyclists.  They may just be heading to or from work.

  3. Yes, you are correct. We are a spoiled bunch though. We want to continue the "OLD" ways of trying to out-do our neighbors by owning the flashiest car, the fastest boat, the largest recreational vehicle etc etc.

People resist giving up this lifestyle, but it will happen eventually.

Right now, homes are being repo'd, jobs are drying up, home builders are going bankrupt, and so forth, so we will be FORCED to start conserving, just to stay above water.

  4. i agree wit you. people just want to show off with big fancy cars and want to complain about gas prices what a bunch of idiots and they dont do anything to change the situation.

  5. I dont believe that people are uninformed. They know d**n well about the energy crisis in California. Theyre just uninterested. I dont know what part of California you live in but gas in South San Diego is 3.63. I walk where I need to go, if close by and drive when driving up and down the coast of Cali. Public Transportation is always an option in my eyes. In the end I agree with what you say.

Common Sense is always a plus.

  6. i think you're wrong and right at the same time, they might have kids and needed the big car and there husband or wife might have a smaller car, i know i have a truck that only gets like 10 mpg at the best but i need it to tow so i can't do anything about it.  I also think that if you can get a car that will help then you should, it's not good to just try and look good in those suv's with the rims it's pointless do it on a smaller car
