I have a three foot red tail boa and i have a question about feeding?

i fed my 3 foot red tail an small adult mouse which is bigger then his usual food...she usually eats hopper mice but he was eating them and digesting them quickly...soo i moved up and he ate it about 20 hours ago and there is still a large lump in him....is this normal?

  1. Yes, very normal.  If the lump is gone within 24 hours then the prey is too small.  As long as the mouse is no more than 1.5 times the widest part of the snake you will be safe.  Here's an excellent RTB site if you haven't already seen it:

  2. Yes. A snake that size in the wild could eat a jumbo rat sized animal... I may not eat again for a while, but you should've started feeding adult mice a long time ago. I have a RTB about 4 feet long and it eats large rats. It ate 2 days ago and it still has a lump in it's belly. I hope this helps.

  3. yes it is but you should of started feeding him adult mice a long time ago my bro got a red tail too about 2 feet long and eating two adult mice every other week at 3 feet i would go with adult mice for a few months then see if he will eat a baby rat but yes the lumb is ok
