I woke up this morning with my cheek and gums swollen around my tooth that hurts. I called and made an appointment but they can't see me until tomorrow. I do not have pus or anything going on, but the swelling is worse than it was this morning. Can it still be an abcess without seeing anything, and will it be okay to wait until tomorrow to get it looked at, hopefully pulled

  1. Sounds like an abscess.  Get it checked as soon as possible to prevent further infection into the root.  You may need a root canal, and they may give you antibiotic's first.  But get it checked out by a dentist. You can wait till tomorrow.  Good luck!

  2. YES...It can still be an abcessed tooth. Usually you will not see puss. An abcessed tooth will show up on an x ray, because the abcess, or pocket of puss is generally located at the root of the tooth.

  3. Tomorrow will be ok.....

  4. Yes, it is possible you have an abscess even if there is no visible pus.  Like the previous person said, dental infections often begin around the roots of the teeth, so it is not uncommon to have swelling without any drainage (like you seem to have).

If you do have an infection, most likely you will either need a root canal or an extraction.

You should be fine until tomorrow, but if you develop a temperature or the swelling starts contricting your airway, you need to be seen immediately.
