I have a update request from Microsoft for "service package 3", how do you install?

It gives an "access denied" warning after I have downloaded and started the install process. It seems to downlaod alright, but stops as described during install process. It then immediately goes to the uninstall function to take it back out.

Is the Service Package 3 a necessary upgrade or do I need to do something to allow it to update. I have Webroot Spy Sweeper and Mcaffee virus protection. Do I need to turn these off to install?

This is first time I have had a problem with any of the updates from Microsoft. I have windows xp.

  1. Yes turn off your security programs temporarily and try to download again. If that doesn't work go to updates and see if you need any Microsoft updates. Then go back and try to download the service pack 3 again.

  2. i called microsoft and asked them to help me and they gave me a case # and it really helped me because i needed a update at the time and it wouldnt download but now it downloads perfectly i learned allways keep the computer updated at all times

Telephone (800)-Microsoft (642-7676) # to microsoft it really helped me they will help you with the problems on the computer and make it run super fast

  3. Short answer

No you do not need it. Leave it. All you need is SP2

  4. You DO NOT NEED SP3, its just a pack with all the updates, you can do this manually by just downloading all the available updates. The reason it is stopping may be that your version of Windows is not genuine OR that some type of Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware or Firewall is blocking the program.
