1. you gotta have a waterpark cert. for waterparks and a swimming pool cert. for the obvious. i recomend the red cross course becuase everyplace that i saw was hiring required red cross cert. they usually have the classes in the ymca or school pool but it just depends on where you live.

along with lifeguarding youll also be trained in cpr and first aid. you hav to be 15 to take the class and work at a facility. the training is really fun and youll prob. be able to work at the place you took the class at.

  2. Most waterparks require Ellis certification. Ellis goes much further in the depth and breadth of their training (different rescues, rescue procedures, number of guards on duty, etc). If you are going to get certified, I would get Ellis. Most Red Cross facilities will accept Ellis but Ellis facilities will not accept Red Cross. Check out the source for more info on Ellis

  3. ok the two major ones i know of are the red cross and ellis and i have been certified/licensed both.

red cross-300 yrd swim 25 yd brick swim on back. used most commonly and accepted everywhere i've applied so far except the waterpark. certification good for 3 years

ellis-50yd swim test. used at waterparks. pool specific. license good for 1 year.
