  1. From your description, I think you have what American collectors would call Scott number 807 (if it is perforated on 3 or 4 sides) or Scott number 842 (if it is perforated on 2 sides, a coil stamp).  It should be more purple than blue -- the catalog describes it as "deep violet".

    In either case it is very common.  The catalog value is listed as 20 cents, but it is unlikely anyone would offer you as much as catalog value for it.

  2. Easy way to check is to look on ebay and see what similar items have sold for.

  3. I would say it depends on the condition of the coin. Is the Ribbon around the edges still good andare there any dent in the face. Also is there a mint on the coin such as an S or an O. Your other options are like stated....To check ebay or just type (1801-1809 used jefferson stamp) in yahoo search box
