  1. You can also sprinkle pieces of orange peel. Cats hate that smell. I saved a catnip plant that way this spring. You do have to renew the peel every three or four days.

  2. Bury some mothballs halfway into the soil. They hate that smell and will stay away.

  3. Sprinkle black peeper, like you use to seson food, sprinkle it generously around the plants and scatter some arounf the areas around your garden. Cats hate to sneezwe and this is the most humand way to get rid of the cats, Also ask your local nursery what to use to reduce the alkaline of the cat urine around your plants

  4. Cayenne pepper, sprinkle it around your plants after you take off topsoil & till the soil with new compost.  You'll have to do the sprinkling after each watering for a couple weeks till the cats get the message.

You can buy this other natural repellent below:

  5. another thing that I use is I water regularly. they will not go on wet or dampish soil.

  6. Cats can be trouble, and this is from someone who has three cats and three dogs .

I found two things that really helped me.  Cats like to use soft soil for their toilet, so if you put large rocks down around your plants they will be repelled by the uneven surface.  The rocks also act as a mulch by helping keep the soil moisture longer.  The rocks (some are baseball size) also keep the plants from leaning over too much.

Another thing cats hate is chicken wire.  If you can place rows of chicken wire down on the soil surface the cats will find the wire uncomfortable on their paws and will try to go elsewhere.

Both the chicken wire and rocks have kept my cats off the vegetables and they go elsewhere.  A garden hose set on high power when they get near the patch also keeps them alert.

Cayenne pepper works, so dos tobasco sauce but either has to be reapplied after each rain.  This also keeps rabbits from nibbing on the plants; perhaps the stray cats have been hanging out in your garden because of rabbits and squirrels?
