I have had the plumber out several times but he puts drain acid down and a bucket of water and says just keep filling it up and thats all i can do. I fill it everyday with water it does not get rid of the smell and now even the drain acid only works for a few hours before the smell comes back HELP!!

  1. change your plumber! he's ripping you off! this should be investigated, or jet blasted. call out a drain clearing co. who will try jetting the drain out first and if this fails they will send a small CCTV camera down to find the problem. you can send a sample to the environmental health dept to make sure there are no dangerous bacteria such as e.coli, listeria, baccillis etc lurking around in there. just for peace of mind. hope this helps.

  2. try getting a foam drain cleaner.it could be just icky stuff built up in the first part of your drains.as long as the trap is filled with water i doubt if it is sewer gas.the trap should always have water in it  and if it is draining out there will be a problem.try to clean out the sink over flow while you are at it

  3. If its a drain that dosen't get used very often, try pouring vegtable oil in it. The oil is heavier than water and won't evaporate as quick.2 -3 cups should do the trick

  4. There should be a u trap that keeps the sewer smell from coming back through the pipe. Are you sure its coming from the drain next to the toilet. The toilet itself has a wax gasket on the bottom that is between the toilet and the sewer pipe. If for some reason this has started to leak you might have sewage underneath the toilet that is not going down.
