who do you go to for such things? And does anyone know of such a place around Washington DC?

I collect antique Japanese and Chinese silk kimonos and jackets that are both vintage and antique, some with sentimental value.  Most of mine were hand made, have embroidery and used metallic thread.  I used a French Dry Cleaner to restore and clean them.  Mine were done in Pasadena, CA but I had to call many textile restorers to find a referral close to where I lived for someone qualified to do the work necessary.  If you have an Asian business association, try them also for a referral.  The woman who did the actual restoration and cleaning of my jackets was a French Vietnamese skilled artisan and was listed in our Asian Business Association.  Good luck in restoring such a wonderful piece of your personal history.
