I think I downloaded a virus through a codec and I want to know if anyone could help me out.

Here's a picture of what shows up on my desktop:

I hope someone can help me out.

If I can't do anything about it but reformat my computer, how do I do that too? I haven't reformatted a computer in a while and I've forgotten some steps.

Thanks in advance.

I click the link its 100% safe.

  2. It certainly sounds like you have been infected with some kind of malware. Unfortunately, if you find one infection, it is highly likely you have another one. A virus, trojan or worm are all different types of infections/malware and there are some great FREE programs that can help you.

First, clean up (delete) your cookies, temp files and temporary internet files. I prefer to use Ccleaner (available at www.filehippo.com) to do this, rather than the built-in DISK CLEANUP, as I feel it does a much more thorough job - for example, it will clean out the index files on your next reboot.

If you want to use Disk Cleanup, you can find it if you:

    - Double-Click on My Computer to open it up

    - RIGHT-click on your C: drive

    - Choose PROPERTIES and then click on the DISK CLEANUP button

    - When done, reboot your computer.

Delete these files daily or run Ccleaner every day right before you shut your computer down.

2 - You should also have a good anti-virus program to help protect your computer. AVG FREE is an excellent anti-virus program, which can be downloaded from www.download.com. You might also choose Avast or Avira, both also free programs from www.download.com.

3 -Since NONE of the anti-spyware/anti-adware programs are 100% accurate in finding and removing spyware, you need at least two programs which you will run one after the other, not at the same time.

There are three excellent free ones:

    --Spybot, Search and Destroy

    --Ad-Aware

    --Spyware Blaster

All are available FREE from www.download.com

You will need to download, install, update (and IMMUNIZE in Spybot) and run them, one at a time. Be careful with the NAME of these programs - there are "look-alikes" with very similar names, that are in fact spyware themselves! Reboot after you install each one!

After this current infection is cleared up, be sure to run both of the above programs at least once a week if you are on the internet frequently and/or like to download music or files.

NOTE: Some infections prevent your from downloading the above programs. You may have to use a clean computer to download the programs and copy them to a thumb drive or CD. Then transfer the install files to the infected computer and run.

--Occasionally you will not be able to run these programs without being in SAFE MODE. To get there, reboot your computer and tap the F8 key, repeatedly until a menu comes up. You want to choose SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING.

4 -You should also have a good firewall to help protect your computer. Zone Alarm makes a totally free version (watch you don't download the 30-day free trial of the paid version). You can download this from the manufacturer at www.zonelabs.com

  3. First off, take a deep breath. Now that that is done, lets get you cleaned up. First off, get an AV if you don't already have one. I like AVG Free but there are others like Avast. Next get Spybot. Once you have those downloaded, reboot your system into safe mode with networking and install the software. Once the installation is done, let it update and then run a scan with each. Clean any problems and reboot the system. You should be good to go. I have included links to you specific issues, but I have not tested their products so I cannot verify if they work. I also have included links to the tools I use. Though you don't need it, I also recommend ThreatFire to handle all of the stuff that a tradition AV does not as well as many Zero Day viruses. Good luck.

There are expert volunteers there who will walk you through the process.

  5. Download the free version of Supernatispyware. http://www.superantispyware.com  Update and run and in depth scan.  Free u must update daily manual or purchase and get auto. updates.

This software finds both viruses and spyware with no conflict to your own antiviurs.

  6. Warning! Win32/Adware.Virtumonde is a fake threat that appears in Your computer desktop and is usually changed by a Rogue antispyware AntivirusXP2008 (or Antivirus XP 2008, AntiVirXP08, AntivirusXP 2008, Antivirus2008XP).

The shown message is as follows:

“WARNING! Spyware detected on your computer! Install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean your computer.

    Warning! Win32/Adware.Virtumonde

    "Warning! Win32/privacyremover.M64".”

The biggest threat to a user, is that Win32/Adware.Virtumonde scares him, and forces him to buy AntivirusXP2008 (or Antivirus XP 2008, AntiVirXP08, AntivirusXP 2008, Antivirus2008XP) which costs $39.95-$79.95.

Dont be fooled with this fake warning message, because Win32/Adware.Virtumonde is only a text or a image, which promotes AntivirusXP2008 (or Antivirus XP 2008, AntiVirXP08, AntivirusXP 2008, Antivirus2008XP) fake AntiSpyware. We advice to remove Win32/Adware.Virtumonde fake message as soon as possible!

  7. This has happen to me.

You have gotten the Antivirus XP 2008.

This is how I got rid of Antivirus XP 2008. It is different than the XP Antivirus 2008 most sites refer to.

First you need to stop the program from loading on startup. This is what you do to stop it:

    Start, run

    Type msconfig

    Go to Startup tab

    Uncheck lphc35dj0e1an

    Uncheck rhc75dj0e1an

    Click apply, then ok

    Restart computer

Then you need to delete the main files this program uses. Delete the following files:

    C:\windows\system32\lphc35dj0e1an.exe

    C:\program files\rhc75dj0e1an\rhc75dj0e1an.exe

This should remove the program from your system but you probably still have a warning message displayed as your wallpaper in Windows and the virus removed the ability to change the wallpaper or your desktop settings.

To restore ability to change your desktop settings and select a different wallpaper and screen saver do the following:

    Start, run

    type Gpedit.msc

Navigate to User configuration, Administrative Templates, Control Panel, Display

Right click on Remove Display in Control Panel

Click on Properties and select Disabled

Do the same steps to change the following attributes to disabled:

    Hide Desktop Tab

    Prevent changing wallpaper

    Hide Apperance and Themes tab

    Hide Settings tab

    Hide Screen Saver tab

You should now be able to use your computer normally and change the wallpaper to something other than the warning message Antivirus XP 2008 set it to.

  8. That looks like a popup from the internet. You shouldn't worry about it. I would ask a computer specialist to take a look but I've seen that before and it's probably just a popup.

  9. EVERYONE DONT CLICK ON THE LINK

    THIS IS A SICK TRAP

ITS GOT A VIRUS WHEN YOU CLICK THE LINK

    ---------------WARNING----------------...

  10. format

1st put the OS cd then when said press any key

then wait...then press enter then f8 then select the drive and full format ntfs then you'll find out the rrest by yourself

  11. Don't format, I hate it when people say that, usually it is VERY un-necessary.

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and run a full scan (or deep scan)

look through what it finds and if you agree with what it finds, remove it all
