I have a virus of some sort, which slowly disabled the programs i have on my laptop, including my kaspersky 2009 anti-virus protection.

It then went on to crash my computer countless numbers of times and wouldnt let me back up my files.

I use Windows XP, and when i restarted the laptop AGAIN, it showed the black:

"We apologise for the inconvenience blah blah blah" screen

and then asked me what mode i would like to start up in.

No matter which of these i choose, it always loops back to the loading screen and then displays the 'inconvenience' screen again.

I cant use the misconfig prompt or start safe mode as its just looping to the loading up page again and again..

Is there any way i can get past this,so that i can back up my files?

or is there even something i could get to connect to my computer so i can retrieve some of my files?

I dont know where to send it in to get fixed, so please dont suggest that, i would much rather fix it myself anyway!

And Please dont say i have to delete and re install windows, :-(

there's pictures of my brother on the laptop just a week or two before he died,

i would be terribly upset if i lost them.

Thanks for the help

xx

  1. just reboot and this time NO p**n!!!! it is the only reason people get virus

  2. Sounds to me that you may have to reinstall windows and start over. But you can go here if you want to see if they can help you remove it.

  3. ok, if it won't let you boot to your hdd then you need to have another drive to boot to with an os installed, you can use an external hdd with windows or a thumb drive with linux. boot to the other drive and then you should be able to get to your drive and grab the files you want. after you get through this, partition your hard drive so that your important files and os are not on the same partition, that way next time you can just format and reinstall without any lost important data

you could also pull your hdd, install it in an external case and hook it to another computer and pull your files that way

  4. Try booting from boot disk and restore from dos

  5. The only left is to get a bootable antivirus CD

    http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_bart_cd.h...

It allow you to boot up in your CD and scan your hard disk for viruses.
