  1. Serves are basically like far hits (spikes)!!  You can start out doing floater serves!  Being the kind that have a high arch as they go over the net!  You have to have a good high toss and  hit the ball pretty hard to be able to get it far enough to go over!  Once you get comfortable with those serves... you can eventually wait longer and let the ball come down lower before you serve... making it a serve closer to the net!

Hope that helps if I explained it good enough!

  2. Use the same body rhythm you use when serving a tennis ball but without the racket.Although most volleyball servers toss it allot higher, you really don't need to as long as the timing is right.Concentrate on the ball not the net, while you are serving.Hit the ball firmly in the middle with open palm thumb IN!!.Lock your wrist so that your whole arm follows through after the hit.you'll know if you hit it wrong if it is a loud slap instead of a preferred "thump".You should try to just hit it over the net the first couple of serves.Don't worry if it goes too far just yet.concentrate on the power you need to get it over the net ,then you will  know what it takes to do that. Then after you get that down, concentrate on getting it shorter so it stays in play.Once you got that down, the you can start on the advance part of overhand serving such as placement  and speed, and when you get good enough you can put different spins to make the ball curve or dip on serves. Have fun!!

  3. If your right handed hold you left hand out with the ball.bring you righ hand back by your ear(not behind) and through the ball up and hit the ball with you right hand.use you palm not you finger tips if you use you fingertips it will beak you fingers!

when you are abou to hit step out and hit it it will go father!

  4. well 1rst of all u hav to b strong. u hold the ball up and toss it up in the air alittle put ur hand up lik ur about to giv some1 a high 5 then as the ball is in the air u hit it in the direction u want it 2 go...hoped i helped!!

  5. well u can practice as much as u can !! try to look up stuff like that on yahoo search or google !! GOOOOOD LUCKK !!!

  6. well if you dont get it at first dont worry, i couldn't serve overhand very well last year, but at our game tuesday i served some aces! you just have to put as much power as you can on the serve (it's best to serve openhand.. you get more control) step forward while you are serving but be careful of foot faults!

  7. try standing near a wall and pretend like you are about to serve make sure that where you hand hits isn't too high or too low. then try serving over a net, make sure that your arm follows through straight. if you don't have enough power to hit it over try putting your hand in a fist.

  8. I know this sounds dumb and tedious, but practice your toss. Toss it over and over until every single time it lands directly in front of whichever toe is forward first. The toss is widely regarded as the most important part of the serve.

Take a second to breathe when it's your turn to serve. Some like to bounce the ball, some like to hit it against the ground a few times, and you can if you like, but it doesn't really matter. Just take a split second to get focused. Don't feel rushed by the whistle because five seconds is a loooong time. And start far enough back that you won't have to worry about a foot fault, although close enough that you won't worry about shorting your serve.

Start with most of your weight on your back, or your dominant foot. When you toss, take a step forward with your other foot, and when you hit the ball, put a lot of strength into it. Do so by shifting your weight to your non-dominant foot-- You should have a stronger serve because of the way you shift your body weight forward, not because you have particularly strong arms. (I'm serious about this, I have seen the tiniest girls with stick arms serve really well because they are really good at shifting their entire body weight forward.)

When you contact the ball, you should have your whole hand spread out as wide as possible to have as much control over your serve as possible. Follow through with a straight arm; bring that arm straight down to your side. This is very important. Some consider it good to watch your hand contact the ball, this is pretty much based on personal preference.

Of course, after you serve, don't stand there and watch it. Run in and join the game :) Enjoy the rally or even the point if it was an ace!

  9. im in volleyball too and we had a game yesterday make that our first game 2 hours away, on wed. i sprained my ankle that i already broke so i couldn't go. :(  im HORRIBLE at my overhand serve) but my coach tells me that sicne im short i can make a fist or if you can learn how to do an under hand serve which is easy for me and don't push yourself to hard because you might not get it if you get frustrated
