  1. You can go to you local hardware store and buy Kilz that is tinted with the color you want to paint the wall. That will cover the red and paint the color you want all in one step. Saves time and money!!!

  2. yea u do have 2 prime it or ur next coat will come out looking like c**p, go 2 ur nearest home depot and get kilz primer its pretty cheap and it works great, most of the time u only need one coat of it, good luck hope this helped u

  3. get kilz..that will take care of any problems

  4. Use a primer. It's a lot less hassle to do it right the first time.

    Best of Luck!

  5. You should be able to do it in one coat. Just be sure to mix the paint very well before and during. That is probably why it's splotchy! You do not need to prime but you will need to paint the entire wall.

  6. Deep base colors like that red take 2 to 4 coats to cover properly.

If you are going to paint a red wall, or any deep color, another color, you need to put at least 2 coats of a quality primer first, then paint with your new color.  If your new color is also a deep base color, you will need to put 2 to 4 coats on the primer to make the new color look good.

  7. In all probability you will need two coats.  Even if you use a good quality paint you will be able to see the difference between one coat and two. Two thinner coats are better than trying to cover it with one heavy coat.  You shouldn't need a primer, just make sure the wall is not covered in grease such as might drift in from a cooking area.

Kilz is not all that terrific, it's just a so-so primer that's not all that good at stain blocking.  Its main advantage is that it is cheaper than a good quality top coat.
