I have a wallet size birth certificate can I use that id going in & out of Mexico or do I need a paper cert.?

You need a passport if you are FLYING to Mexico, but not for LAND travel.  I don't know about that wallet size certificate...did you get it from the state office...or was it made at a copy shop?  You must havfe a CERTIFIED (from the official vital statistics office ) certificate.  See site below for correct, current info about the passport.
