You can go to an out door camping store.  They have a lot of water filtration divices out their.  You can use one of them or they may give you an idea.  Good luck.

If you have to filter it to clear it, try passing it through sand. Would the addition of alum to clump the particles be considered cheating? If not, add it to the muddy water.

put muddy water into a container and put it outside on a hot day.  Take black plastic cut into the shape of a triangle and put it the wide end over the water (not cover just above it). Let the narrow end of the plastic angle down to a nother container that is shaded well. When the water evaporates the vapor will collect on the plastic and run down to the other container and you'll have clear water
