It has been 6 months since I changed it which it recommends and the filter was a dark copper color and the water on the outside of the filter was black. I did go a little over the time it was to change the filter and my water in the house was coming out clear but is this normal? For the filter to be that dark? I use this water for drinking.

  1. you should be fine. tap water is actually legally safe to drink (most areas of the US), but filtered water is still better. change the filter ASAP and you will be fine!!

  2. It is normal that a good filter will take on the color of whatever it is that it is filtering out of the water. Water differs greatly from place to place, especially if it is well water. The black could be from charcoal grains that came with the filter itself which is not a cause for concern.

  3. Watch it and change it as you need to - not how they say. Our tap water is disgusting and I will never drink it again. Each household is different in each area.
