I have a web cam and i know its compatible. why wont it work?

It is a creative instant webcam. on the site i checked they said it might me a skype version? i have windows xp please help!!

  1. Well you didn't give much info, but here's a few possibilities/liklihoods.  I'll assume a logitech webcam since they're the most common.

    If you have a 64 bit version of Windows, Vista's new service pack broke Logitechs drivers -- updates are pending.  They do not have drivers that work with XP 64.

    If you have a 32 bit version of Windows:

    Be sure the web cam is disconnected when you go to install the software, it will tell you when to connect it.

    If you're running Vista get the most recent software from the website, the CD that came with it may be too old to support Vista.

  2. Try reinstalling the driver from the device manager page, jsut go to the webcam (or unknown device) right click, properties, then update the driver. Hope this helps.

  3. Detail required. What webcam, and what windows are you using.
