growling type noise. Is it something I can probably fix myself. I don't want to mess with it too much. EVerything on it is electric, buttons.. and such

Yes the pump could be the problem no magic answers here call somebody who does know before you get hurt. clothes washer are just that for clothes not pillows or throw rugs!

Unplug it , remove the water hoses and open the case up. There usually is a schematic on the inside panels but if you can't read those just check the drain hose first. That can get clogged and stop water from draining while everything else seems to be working. You can do this on your own, just remember water and electricity don't mix.

If your washed is less then 2 years old go to the whirlpool website and see if they will come out and fix it for you for free (warrenty).
