We put him in a 3 gal aquarium. He is a green tree frog. He's about 2 inches. He has a pond & plenty of crickets. He is very sweet & loving. But what do I feed lil Fiasco (his name)? Can you buy reptile pellets @ Wal-Mart?

  1. I will still say let the poor thing back out into the wild where it belongs.  If you must keep it for your selfish reasons then take good care of it.

The eat live insects only, movement triggers their feeding response.

    Heres a nice care sheet.

  2. give him crickets, mealworms, and calcium powder

  3. im sorry to say that wild reptiles and amphibians are some of the hardest things to care for. i no u told us not to but letting it go is the best thing to do. and how do you know it loves everything?  it is a very hard thing to let an animal go, but c'mon, do you honestly think it likes its cage, treefrogs dont live in ponds! do the frog a favor and let it go, you'll get over it in a week maybe even days. you can keep it for a little while, but he'll get tired of living in captivity.

  4. Frogs, even sweet and loving ones, will not eat food that isn't living. The crickets are OK, especially if they are young but soft-bodied insects are best. Have you thought about what you are going to feed Fiasco if he lives long enough that you can't catch flies for him?

  5. the frog doesn't need you to care for it.  It was doing just fine on its own.  Please free the frog.

  6. Don't worry, I wont say you have to let him go. I have a green tree frog as well, and Ive had him for about 9 months and he is a happy little guy. A 3 gallon aquarium is a perfect size; tons of room for him. Make sure you have plenty of sticks in there for him, like big, thick sticks. They love hopping around as you know.

Feed him live crickets, small to medium size is best. I would say feed him about 4-5 crickets one day, then wait about a week before you feed him again. Im not sure if you know this, but frogs can go a LONG time without food, so dont worry about him getting hungry. ALWAYS have water in his cage or else he will dry out. I would suggest some big rocks for him to sit on as well, and either moss or paper towel(or a combination of both, this is what i have for my frog) as the substrate. This guy seems like hes living the life of a king.

  7. Ok

First of all im trying to give u best best advice for the frog i dont mean to sound belittling or offend u in anyway but i dont know how much experience u have and wanna make sure everything’s covered.

First of all get your other frog out there asap all wild caught animals (and really animals from the store) need at least a month (preferably 3 months) quarantine due the fact he's probably carrying diseases that could kill your other frog

id say u need more than 3 gallons especially for a frog that used to the wild a 5-10 tall tank (NOT a long one like a fish tank) should be set -up with lots of places to hide and climb (more than 2 branches)

If your other frog is a different species keep them apart due to the whole mixing issue (incompatible toxins/bacteria - fighting -stress etc)

feed him a verity of insects (crickets (dont leave them in the cage for too long) mealworms (behead first) earthworms flies slugs etc) almost all wild frog (and even most captive bred) wont eat rep sticks (you should know this if u have another frog????)

remember no frogs toads newts or salamanders should be handled unless absolutely necessary due to the salts and chemical on your hands and in your skin being absorbed through the phibs skin (washing your hands only makes it safe for 3-5mins)

clean water every day (spring bottled water not tap)

Finally i would like to say even if u "saved his life" it doesn't mean its right to keep him frogs are more intelligent than people give them credit for and it will probably become stressed from living in captivity. this can lead to health problems maybe even death.

here is come caresheets and info for your new frog if u really must keep it

  8. i caught me a northern green frog (aquatic) 2 weeks ago and wanted to know what it would eat so i went to the pet store (Petsmart) and bought crickets and she loves them. Wal-Mart should have them but the frog is very unlikely to eat them because they prefer live food. approximately how big is the frog that would help!?!? And dont feed it crickets if it looks like the frog cant eat them comfortably. Dont buy to big crickets.

  9. flies, mealworms, waxworms and crickets
