  1. A wired PC will NOT see wireless networks. If the connection works for other people's machines your own machine MUST connect unless there is something wrong with it.

  2. You must have a wireless card installed to connect to a wireless network.  Either that, or purchase a USB wireless adapter. The latter choice is probably cheaper, but it depends on where you buy the hardware.

    Once you have installed the wireless card or adapter, it's just a matter of deciding on a network manager that you like.  If you are using Windows XP, there is a wireless network manager built into the operating system.  You can choose your wireless networks by going to:

    Start->Control Panel->Network Connections

    From here, right click on your wireless adapter and choose "Properties". Then click on the "Wireless networks" tab so that you can choose your wireless network and enter the WEP/WPA key.  You can also designate this as your default network so that your computer will connect to it automatically when you turn the machine on.

    If you are on OS X, there is also a built in wireless network manager.  There should be an icon in the upper right side of your screen.  If not, you can enable it in System Preferences. If you click on this icon, a list of available wireless networks will appear.  Choose yours from the list and enter your WEP/WPA key.

    If you are under a *nix environment, I very highly recommend Wicd (http://wicd.sourceforge.net/) as your network manager.  It is the only network manager that can connect to my WPA-PSK encrypted networks with nearly 100% success rate.  All other network managers seem to have problems with WPA-PSK for me.

  3. AS I SAID BEFORE:

    You NEED a wireless adapter to connect. If you don't have one , you cant use wireless. You will need to buy one.

    THEN

    Go to start > control panel

    If vista, click network and internet, then click Connect to a network, and select the wireless network.

    If xp, go to networking connections an double click your wireless device. Then select a network.

    You probably don't have a wireless adapter.
