  1. Hm, sounds like your laptop is wirless which is not the problem. The problem would be your DC jack, which is the jack you plug your Ac into (Ac adapter which plugs into the wall) You can attempt to repair this yourself, its a common issue with laptops, the sautering has come loose off the motherboard that connects the 2 together, thats why you can only run off AC and not BATT.

Price to repair >150. if you have a warrenty/extened warrenty or have had your computer within a year it is covered under your warrenty.

  2. You need to open the router program and click "make this computer wireless" and follow the steps

    hoot

  3. I am not sure I understand your problem.  Which of these is your problem:

    1. You take the power cord out of your wireless router and the wireless router shuts down?

    2. You take the power cord out of your laptop and your laptop shuts down?

    3. You take the network cord out of your laptop and your router shuts down?

    4. You take the network cord out of your laptop and your laptop does not shut down but it does not have a network connection any more?

    5. Something else - please specify

If it is 1. then that is supposed to happen, you just took power away from your router.  If it is 2. then it could mean that your laptop battery is dead or defective or that the connectors for the battery in the laptop are defective.  If it is 3. that is really weird and I hope that is not the case since I don't see how that could happen.

If it is 4. (which I suspect), then it means that though you have a wireless router you have not set up your laptop to receive a wireless connection.  There are a number of steps to it and you could be missing any one:

    a) Enable the wireless radio on your laptop. Each laptop has a different way of doing this and I can't be sure how to do it on yours. Sometimes there is a wireless radio button somewhere on the laptop that you have to set to the "on" position.  Sometimes you have to do it through the Network section on control panel. Either read your laptop manual or write back with specifics and I can guide you more

    b) Next you have to ask your laptop to connect to your router. This partly depends on how you set up your router. If you did not change the SSID on your router it will have a default name like "default" or "linksys" or something like that.  You have to right-click (not left-click) the wireless radio icon in the control tray to the lower right of your start bar. It will offer you a number of choices, pick "View Wireless Networks". Then you should see all the available networks that your laptop can see. The router should be visible as its SSID name as mentioned earlier. Click on that name and click "Connect".  It will connect to your router and you are done.

  4. If you have a wireless router and can only connect to the Internet when the Ethernet cable is connected you need to make sure that wireless mode is enabled on both the router and the laptop. On the laptop you may need to refer to the manual. There may be a button or switch on the outside of the laptop you need to make sure is on. Usually there will be an icon or indicator that lets you know that wi-fi on your laptop is enabled.

On your wireless router while you are connected with the cable, you will need to go to the setup page. Your router manual will show you how to do that and check to make sure that wireless is enabled on the router as well.

You should also enable security on the wireless router so that people nearby can't access your home network. I'd recommend you use WPA-PSK instead of WEP. It's more secure.
