I am never more than 10-20m away from the router and we have normal brick build construction, one hands free phone handset and a few mobiles. Both laptops have always had excellent signal strength but now the SOny Vaio has suddenly dropped the connection unless I sit alongside the router. What can I do to remedy this?

  1. Go to your router IP adress and go on Advanced settings and make sure the signals are distributed evenly thoughout all computers.

  2. If there's no outside interference - sounds like the internal antennae might be having a problem.  You can verify by disabling the internal wireless, and trying a usb wireless adapter.  If you signal gets better then you know the problem. if not it's an interference problem.  Most laptop mfgs. put the antennae around the screen.

  3. may be worth resetting the router to use another channel in case another network is causing interference

Try reinstalling the wireless drivers on the viao.
