My landlord is a slum lord, and his maintenance man is a joke. The toilet was leaking at the base on the floor. So maintenance jerk comes over and seals the base of the toilet with caulking rather than turning off the water and replacing the wax seal which would require removing the toilet and then replacing it. Well that worked temporaily but eventually the caulking gave way and the leak was back (not to mention it has to be rotting the wood frame underneath). Thing is I'm going to move anyways so I put a towel down over night to sopp up water and figured to heck with it. I'll just caulk it again and get through the next 2 months. This sounds rude, but you would understand if you knew what this landlord has put me through and cost me. Anyways, when I picked up the rag there was a large amount of little tiny worms of some sort. They were about a 1/4" long and very thin like a skinny sewing needle. I've found these once before in the same rest room. Any idea what these could be? I have a bad feeling about them and have 2 pets. Should I be concerned?

  1. Some sort of fly larvae that is living in the punky wood under your toilet.  To keep the grossness level down, I would spray some Raid.  I don't think your pets will be interested, but you could wipe the surface area after the Raid has somewhat soaked in.

Nice work by that maintenance guy!  Unbelievable.  At least you have the satisfaction that instead of a $3 wax ring, your landlord will be facing $700 for a new bathroom floor.

  2. Termites, they won't hurt anything but the wood.Yes I think you should move out before the toilet falls through the floor.

  3. Could be termites or silver bugs. The rotten wood is attracting them. Document the issues you have had and the remedy's the jerks have preformed so that when you do bounce from the joint the landlord doesn't blame you for the damage or charge you for the repairs that are defiantly needed.

Sounds like he/she is defiantly the type of slum lord they'll try.

Spray Raid around the base and anywhere you found the bugs. Keep the pets out of the bathroom.

  4. They sound like maggots maybe termites, the floor underneath could be rotten. My parents bought a house where the floor around the toilet was rotten and they had termites all around it
