Well you should research what it takes to be a fashion designer. You have to be able to sew, and should have a sewing machine. I'm sure every designer has their preference. But you should have a serger and then a regular machine. There is really no material that is used most, you have to choose fabric that works with the design. You should probably take classes so you can learn about design because it takes a lot to become a designer. You also need to create your own patterns, figure out how you will sell your merchandise and distribute and ship it.

Haven't you ever taken any fashion designing classes!?!? You really should. I took a designing class for three years. It's not nearly as professional as top designers obviously, but it's still using the same concepts.

You have to have a pattern. You lay that under neath this paper and trace all the lines, you must be as perfect as you can here. Then you pin the pieces to your fabric, and cut it carefully with nice fabric scissors. The sewing mashines are just regular sewing machines, just very high quality.

I am a fashion designer. You want to make clothing yourself? Designing clothing and constructing clothes are two different things.

Diddy, and all the other pop and movie personality people who have lines are fake! they give young kids and aspiring fashion designers a fake idea of what being a fashion designer is and how to be successful at it. other people who are trained designers do all the designing for him. Diddy does not know how to turn on the sewing machine.

Making clothes is complicated. I will try to give you some idea then just look up fashion design careers on the web and you will get schools in your area to go and learn.  It will take some time to learn and be good at it, about a few years. So that is when most people give up. They think it will be easy, and they give up.

So usually only the serious trained fashion designer stay in the biz over the years and have strong business that last over and over each year. You must decide if you are going to do it for fun or for a career or as a business. here are things you need to make your own clothes at home:

1. Sewing machine. the bigger and more expensive the better. The better ones do not break down and they are stronger with stitches and using multiple fabric and have multiple feet to do different sewing procedures.

2. Pins, needles, thread, tape measures, markers, cutters, cutting boards, pattern markers

3. fabrics

3. buttons, zippers, binding, laces, trims

4. Patterns: your own or store bought

5. Body forms: your size to fit the clothing, these are expensive.

6. Pencil paper and drawing material, colored pencils.

There is more but, just enough to get started in this area.

ps. Remember making clothes is fun and creative. It will take time to be good, but you will develop good skills if you keep at it.

They use a commercial grade sewing machine not usually sold for home sewers, and they avoid most synthetic fabrics, in general. They also use an adjustable dress form to drape and pin the fabric on.

There may be books at the library that explain exactly how designers work, from getting ideas for their creations clear through to selling them.
