  1. In order for the XP machine to show up in Vista, you have to jump through some hoops. MS decided that they did not want to make Vista compatable with older OSs, even their own. Once a whole lot of people yelled, they came up with a little utility so that XP and Vista could share the same sandbox.

Follow the link below to the MS knowlege base for the instructions on what to do.

  2. setup a network, setup sharing.Remote desktop.

  3. XP and VISTA talk well.  The link the other contributor provided was to allow XP system to be mapped into a new nifty feature for discovering and viewing your network.  It has NOTHING to do with browsing and sharing.

Now... You have two HOME versions which cannot use the Remote Desktop Connection however you can use the remote assist from both to access and control the other's screen.  From Vista, click on the Start button and click Help and Support.  Under Ask Someone,   click on Use Windows Remote Assitance.  Invite someone to help.  Use Email and email the invitation to yourself.

On the XP box, Open your email and click on the invitation.  It should allow you to connect to the Vista box.

To invite from the XP box,  Click on the Start button and then select Help and Support.  Under Ask for Assistance, click on Invite a Friend. Use email to send the invite and log into email on the Vista box to receive the invite.

Now... you can just install TightVNC on both systems.  TightVNC is a remote desktop connection application that is free.   Goto www.tightvnc.com and download the application.  It will allow you to take over the other computers desktop just like Remote Desktop does.
