I have a yamaha 115 hp outboard motor. and the alarm go's on the hole time, what can the problem be?

My 90hp  Yamaha alarms at the beginning of the season. I found it is because cooling water flow gets impeded... maybe from sitting through the winter. All I do is  blow out the cooling tube with a strong exhale, and it is fine. The water flow regains its strength.

Hopefully your impeller is not the reason.

If it is equipped with an automatic oil injection system the chances are the sensor has gone bad and not reading correctly......

If the alarm is continuous it's over heat> intermittent oil alarm> There is a water issues>If the engine is pumping water than a sender or shorted wire>

First of all DO NOT RUN THE MOTOR.  If you have ran it for any period of time with it doing this the motor may be blown up.  If you shut it off right away then it should be fine.

Due to the number of things it may be and the procedures for diagnosis, take it to a certified Yamaha dealer to have it checked out.

Most of the time when an owner tries to do their own repairs  they fail to fix the problem.

Hi there

First act of business is  Does the engine have an oil injection tank? If so the sensor could be bad. The motor should have a warning module, a little square black box with wires running from it, These are also culprits for going bad. Is the motor overheating? This to will sound an alarm. Aside from this You can just do the process of elimination test by getting the alarm to start going off and say start with the oil injection tank and unplug the wires running out of it if the alarm stops then you know the problem lies within that particular section if it does not make it stop then go to your cylinder heads where the overheat sensors are and unplug these one at a time and just continue doing this within all the system alarm features until problem is isolated. This is like a quick check to do when you have a minimal amount of test equipment to work with.

Sensor's probably smoked. Easy fix.
