I have a yamaha rxv663bl reciever can i upconvert component to hdmi, my tv has no hdmi.?

I have a ps3 and If i could get the component to go through the recievers hdmi

  1. i do not know if you were confused or it just came out wrong while you were typing but component it less on the scale than hdmi.  upconverting component to hdmi will do you no good in this instance.    normaly recivers do not downconvert, but try hooking component monitor out to your tv and setting up the receiver, with the osd, to input hdmi and output component.  if that doesnt work then buy a new tv to go with the nice ps3


  2. You obviously have a fairly new receiver or it wouldn't have HDMI. But since both your PS3 and your TV support component why not just go with that? Or am I misunderstanding and your PS3 has only HDMI? I'm pretty sure you can get component output from the PS3. Run it to the receiver and then component from the receiver to the TV and there will be no need to convert anything.

    BTW you can't really call going from component to HDMI upconverting since both of them support 1080. It is converting the format but technically it is not upconverting.

  3. The HDMI portion of that Yamaha CANNOT be "down converted to Component." It is right in the manual.
