The yamaha ttr 125 stalls out after 10-15 minutes of riding. then it cannot be started for 5- 10 minutes afterwards, I suspect its overheating. It is an air cooled engine, but I cannot find any answers of fixing it. I need some tips on how to get it back going without overheating Please!

  1. It's probably overheating from a lean condition, which means you're getting way too much air and not enough fuel.  Chances are you've got leaking seals, allowing air into the crankcase.

Edit:  OOPS! TTR is a four stroke, not a two stroke.  I still thinks it's a lean condition, have you put a performance pipe on it recently?  Have you cleaned the air filter recently?

  2. There's alot of things that could be wrong there. Your petcock could have a little bit of a clog in it, so that the carb bowl fills up correctly and then there is not enough gas getting into the carb after that to maintain the level when the bike is running, then you turn off the bike, gas fills the carb bowl back up and then the bike will run for a while again. Could also be a clog in your fuel line.

If your petcock has a on, res, and prime (PRI) position it is a vaccum operated petcock, so the rubber diapraghm inside the petcock could be damaged, try turning it to RES and see if the bike will run better like that, the reserve setting by passes the diapraghm and allows gas to flow freely.

If you have a on, off, and res then that fix won't work.

I really doubt the bike is over heating, unless you're sitting still with the throttle wide open for 10 minutes. The way these bikes are built now the fins on the cylinder will be more than enough to keep the motor cool if your riding the bike correctly.

Hope that gives you some kind of idea.
