i bought it at a local pet store not too long ago and i have been doing a bit of research and i found out that females get stripes when they are healthy and i specificaly asked the owner if i could get male bettas and he picked them out for me... now im not sure if he made a mistake or my male betta really has horizontal stripes for a reason

  1. if its a female it will have short fins..if its a male it will have long fins..

  2. I answered this ? in you other post...the stripes that run from head to tail are stress stripes...what kind of tank is this fish in? What are the parameters? ( ph ,ammonia, nitrites ., nitrates , temp ) they should be 0 ammonia , 0 nitrites, 10 - 30 nitrates the lower the better...and temp around 80. he should be in a 5 gallon filtered heated tank...good luck
