  1. The Republic of Ireland is a separate country you will need a visa to enter it.  The six counties in Northern Ireland are part of the UK & your UK visa will cover you to enter them.

  2. Are you a resident/citizen of the UK?

Citizens of United Kingdom residing in United Kingdom have to apply for a visa to Ireland in person at the nearest consulate of Ireland in United Kingdom. Please note that the application procedures and fees may vary depending on where you apply. If there is no consulate of Ireland in United Kingdom there might be a consulate of Ireland in one of the neighboring countries that covers the jurisdiction of United Kingdom.

If you are a US citizen, you do not need a Visa for Ireland if your stay is less than 90-days.
