Question:

I have an 18hp, two cyilinder riding mower that won't start.I'm not getting a spark at the plug.?

I've replaced the ignition coil,the flywheel sheer key is good the flywheel magnet appears good and strong. frankly I'm beffalled.any takers,please email me.

  1. There are several safety switches one may be under the seat and the mower will only start if you are on it. another may be on the brake pedal, yet another on the shift control lever(nuetral safety switch) another on the pto or balde engage switch. Depending on the age there may even be an oil level sensor that will kill the spark if the oil is not at proper level. There are alot of possible combinations. You may be wiser to take it to a local repair facility to check it out if this is beyond your scope.


  2. If you put a new ignition module on it did you attach the wires the same as they were?  The reason I ask is that it sounds like you are grounding the module.  That is the way the engine is shut off.  Try unhooking the small wire from the module/coil and see if you get spark.  That wire could be grounding somewhere.  Could be a break in the insulation or a bad ignition switch.
