  1. They stopped putting the reverse compatible drives in the newer model PS3s.  I have one of the rare 60gb older versions and it plays all PS2 games (100%) because it has the reverse compatible hardrive that they stopped manufacturing.  I think you're out of luck.  Sorry but I hope this answers your question.

  2. The PS3 can only play "CERTAIN" PS2 games, but not all of the PS2 games though.

  3. The only model of PS3 that can play PS2 games is the one that is packaged with MGS4.

If your PS3 did not come with MGS4, you got one of the "new" 80GB PS3s, which is really the same as the older 40GB PS3, only it comes with a larger hard drive.

Otherwise, make sure your PS3 has gotten the latest update from PSN, and if that doesn't do it, then you'll have to call Sony and find out what's going on.

Here's a good chart showing the differences between each model of PS3.  As you can see, the MGS4 bundle is the LAST model to have PS2 compatibility.  From now on, all PS3s will be UNABLE to play PS2 games it seems:

  4. my 80gb plays all ps2 and ps1 games

the 80gb ps3 plays about 80% of the ps2 games.....

try other ps2 games if this wont work

return it... get a new one

  5. no.  you're stuck with that one unless you can find the original 80GB, the 20GB, or the 60GB.  the new 80GB is NOT backwards compatible and there is nothing you can do to change that.
