Question:

I have an 84 dodge ram charger and when i tried to start it fire shot out of the carb what could be wrong

the person before me put a new distributer cap on and it started to shoot out fire after that but ran fine before that

  1. Sounds like the spark plug firing order is wrong. Maybe the cap was put on 180 degrees rotated to the left or right. If not, perhaps the wires from the plugs were put into the wrong holes on the cap. Check and correct the firing order.


  2. The plug wires are not in the correct order. Check to see if some of the wires were put in wrong.

  3. its either out of time or the plug wires are crossed up on it,you need to re-check the wiring diagram on it the firing order is 1--8-4-3-6-5-7-2-,if the are right then its out of time,good luck.

  4. They wired the distributor cap wrong so that the cylinders are firing in the wrong sequence therefore backfiring through the carb.  

  5. The spark plugs are firing while the intake valves are open. Put the wires back on the right order and hope it didn't damage anything.
