I have tried everything I can think of (Re installed NVIDIA drivers, gone thtou the config wizard, tried 3 different DVD drives, 3 different media players and tinkered with diffrent refresh rates/resolutions. Nothing seems to make a blind bit of difference - any ideas would be greatly appreciated! P.S. I am running Windows XP if this makes a difference.

  1. The computer and the Video Card are probably just not compatible.  I would take the video card and computer to a computer professional and get their opinion.

  2. What drivers for the graphics card are you using?  Go to start menu and select "run programs" then type in dxdiag and click go.  It will bring up everything you need to know about your graphics card including what drivers you have installed.  Then go to the nvidia website and check out the latest drivers they have for your 8600 card.  While you are there, if they are newer then download them and save them to your desktop.  Go into add/remove programs and uninstall your old drivers and restart your computer, then install the new drivers you downloaded and restart again and you will be good to go.

If your drivers were the newest to begin with, or the new ones do not help do the dxdiag thing again and check and see what model motherboard you have.  If you have an AMD7xx chipset on the northbridge then that is what is giving you problems.  AMD has it listed on their website about their new chipsets giving problems with nvidia cards.  It is called spider tech by AMD and it is to work hand in hand with ATI based graphics cards.  For one thing AMD bought ATI out last year and now are one company so in turn they started building motherboard chipsets to specially run with one type of graphics card to optimize a persons experience...
