I have an Acer Aspire 5100-5455 laptop. It was preloaded with Vista. Vista really slows down my comp.?

I tried everything. I unchecked a lot of my startup programs and went reduced some of the visual effects. I have verizon for internet and my laptop frequently connects and disconnects itself to my network. I think Win XP will help. I have a windows XP home and XP pro cd. When i open up the cd installing windows is grayed. Is there a way where i can install xp? If not how can i make vista faster

If you want to make Vista faster the first thing you can do is make sure that your system is set to High Performance.  Most laptops are under a setting that greatly limits the CPU in exchange for a greater battery life.
