Could anyone give me any information on this breed of rabbit. I just got her today and she is a year old, She is very skittish and she just tried to bite me when I stuck food in her cage. The other owner said that she wasn't handled a lot and we have been holding her a lot today. Is it possible that she just wants to be left alone, or should we be looking for another bunny? Please Help I have small children and I dont want them getting bit.

unfortunately you bought a rabbit that isnt friendly when really you should have bought a friendlier one..

    good rabbit link

  4. Here are a few tips that might help:

    1. Instead of worrying about plucking her out of the cage and handling her a lot, since she wasn't handled before, try playing with her on the floor instead. If the cage is on the floor, open the door and let her come out on her own. If not, gently take her out and place her on the floor.

    2. Sit on the floor and watch tv or read a book, but don't make eye contact and don't make any sudden movements. Rabbits are naturally curious animals and she will enjoy sniffing and exploring the room, and will eventually start exploring you as well- sniffing your legs and toes, maybe even hopping on your lap.

    3. Despite her actions, refrain from touching her for at least 2-3 days. This way, she will trust that you're not trying to grab her or hurt her.

    4. When she seems more comfortable with you, try gently talking to her. And when she comes close, put your hand flat on the ground for her to sniff. If she does, slowly raise it and pet her on the head. Petting a rabbit on the body is totally off-limits until trust is formed.

    5. Soon, you wil be able to hold her, talk to her, and pet her without any major problems.

Since she has not been handled before, she may never be a cuddly lap bunny. But there is no reason that with love, patience, and good care, she will not become a friendly bunnies. Noy many rabbits enjoy being handled, but they all love to play and will certainly enjoy playing games with you on the floor, or just exploring the room.

As for the breed...I breed Holland Lops, so I'm not real familiar with AFL's. But they are a smaller breed, I think their show weight is about 2-4 lbs., like their un-fuzzy cousin, the Holland Lop. They of course have wool, but it is considered to be low maintenance wool as opposed to the angoras. From what I understand, they generally have a pretty calm, friendly personality. For more information, you can visit www.arba.net, click on the "Breed Photos" page, and click on American Fuzzy Lop. This will take you to the national breed club's website.

Hope this helped! Good luck and best wishes with your new bunny!

  5. just handle her more and watch your kids while they're around it
