The owners manual says that I have a 110Volt/30Amp hook up. When I look at the campsite websites they say they have a 15Amp hook up supply. It doesnt make any sense to me. Will my 110Volt/30Amp hook up work ok.

  1. I would imagine that the 15A/30A refers to the size of the socket at the supply - a 30A socket is obviously bigger than a 15A. As long as the supply socket (and the one on your van) are YELLOW 110v sockets, all you need is a hook-up lead with a plug to fit the supply on one end, and one to fit your van on the other.

If the supply at the site has a BLUE socket, it's 240v.

  2. doubtful

You need to check with the campsite operator, they may have 110v power supply.. its is after all the default supply for external power.

a 240v 13amp supply is capable of being converted to 110v/30amp.. you will need a step down transformer.. sort of similar to those yellow boxes seen on building sites.

the give away is what colour the connectors are.. 220/240v is usually blue, 110v usually yellow.

The real problem I can see is that you are committed to US voltage inside the barge..... all the mains powered devices are at 110v.. so you cannot hook up to any UK voltage.. it will blow the electrics, and probably cuase a fire or ignition source. anything that goes wrong will need specialist parts.

  3. 30 Amp connections are the most common at campsites.  The 50 amp services are for the newer, bigger rigs, but most camp sites have 30 amp.  You need to take an adapter with you at all times, in case you do have to plug into a 15 amp service... this is especially true in Mexico.

Just remember 15 AMPS MEANS 15 AMPS... so don't try running your Air conditioner on a 15 amp circuit or you will just keep blowing circuit breakers... 15 amps is just enough to run your battery charger, refrigerator, TV set and satellite receiver and NOT MUCH MORE.

  4. the 15 amp hook up is like the plug in your house there is an adapter for about 5 bucks to convert to the 30 amp 3 prong plug but be careful not to overload the 15 amp circut by using to many electrical devices like the air conditioner and appliances.

  5. That seems pretty high for a motor home, call the campground and ask them,i think they have special sites for 30 amp setups. Or you could just use certain appliances so as not to pop the breaker.

  6. Yes, no problem. The 110volt/30amp specification is fairly standard - it is the maximum that your system can take (give or take). If the campsites are offering 15amps then you will be fine. The kettle may boil more slowly, but you will not blow any fuses.

    Happy camping Bigpathome.

Sorry, I just realised that you may be in the UK, in which case we have a 240volt system, so you will need to buy an inverter that will change the 240V to 110V (at the right ampereage) for your system. I live in the UK and know that the 110/240 inverter is readily available in caravan/boating outlets.

  7. Does it float because your in boats and boating.
