I have an FAFSA EFC of 8110 but no way my parents can help me but i really want to go to college

does the 8110 mean i have to somehow come up with or what, thanks

  1. The EFC is just a code the schools use to determine what kinds and how much fin aid you will get.  It is NOT the amount you will have to pay for your school.  With this EFC you will qualify for federal Stafford loans.  Dependent freshman can usually borrow up to 5,500 a year.  (More if you are independent).  You will not need a cosigner and won't need to pass a credit check.  The best way to figure out how much you'll have to pay for college is to look at the schools tuition rates and fees because you'll have to pay that back when you get loans (plus interest).


  2. The EFC includes money for housing, food, transportation, etc. Wait until you get your Student Aid Report (SAR). That will tell you exactly how much financial aid you will receive for the next semester. You will have to pay the difference, which might be a lot. Start looking into scholarships, fellowships or jobs that help pay for college. Also, keep in touch with your school's financial aid office.
