I have an IDE configuration problem since installing Windows XP Service Pack 3. Can anyone help?

Since installing Windows XP Service Pack 3, whenever I switch on my computer, before XP loads, I get the message...

Invalid configuration information - please run SETUP program. Diskette drive 0 seek failure.

It then goes on to say...

Performing automatic IDE configuration...

Primary Master: Disk Drive

Secondary Master: CD-ROM Device

Time-of-day not set - please run SETUP program.

Even though I update it in SETUP, I still encounter the same problem each time I switch on.

I am running a Dell Dimension 3000, Pentium 4 CPU 3GHz, 2GB of RAM, Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 (now with Service Pack 3).

Can anyone help please?

  1. this error is pointing to your Floppy drive, to access your setup press f2 on startup and check the settings here. SP3 has probably nothing to do with it, the other big clue is the Date and time message I guess that the Battery on your motherboard has gone flat. This can be replaced by yourself, as most Pc batterys are CR2032 and quite cheap to buy. When you replace it run set again and save your settings including the correct time.

  2. Press Del at start-up (bios settings)

    1 integrated peripherals

    2 IDE device config

3 SATA controller mode > set to IDE

  3. Un install service pack 3.Go to windows update and click on custom,Select updates you require.Set time and date,Reboot check time and date,If it has changed again your back up battery needs replacing.
