I bought an LG 42" Plasma TV back in 2005.It has just recently (1 mth )developed a set of lines on the left side of the screen. The line was Green at first. Then it became a green or red line and it comes and goes when it pleases. Some say it could be an interference but it has never done it before and I have"nt added anything?I am thinking of switching from Cable to Dish anyway.Should I do that first to make sure it isnt the crappy cable svce that has been terrible all along? Please let me know if any of you have any experience in this area or know of anyone that does?

  1. It could be the case has become magentised (try an commercial demagnetiser) or it could be that the contact strip along the side of the screen has become lose by vibration (bit like a rubber strip) gentle tapping on the side (of the case NOT the screen) may help you work out if its this.

  2. A demagnetizer won't do anything... but you might have luck with the tapping...

But here's another thought... I have a plasma that does this, but it isn't anything wrong with the screen. It's in the signal coming to the TV.

A simple fix might be to zoom in... My TV (not an LG like yours) has a zoom feature in the menu. I Zoom in to 106% which is very little, and the line then goes away. It is zoomed off the edge of the screen.

    Does yours do this?

If so, check the video source... If you have a built in tuner, does it do it on DVDs too?

Sometimes this is caused by differences in resolution between the signal coming in and the TV's ability to display.

Like watching a 720p picture on a 1080 display... OR THE OTHER WAY AROUND. Or your screens Native resolution may be HD, but not exactly 720 or 1080... If this is the case you will get different results depending on the channel you are on.....

IF you have an EXTERNAL HD Tuner, check that it is outputting the signal to the same resolution as your TV.
