I have an MT50 mobile

I have an MT50 mobile phone that i brought about 5/6 years ago.I have forgotton my pin number. I get a message asking me to enter the work PUK. When i do this the screen shows numberical numbers and not the word. I can't change it to read alpha keys as i can't access the tools and format to enable me to do this. I took out the SIM card thinking this may help - but didn't. Can you tell me what i'm doing [e-mail] or [e-mail]
